Covid-19 Survival Kit - Findings and Lessons Learned
I was recently delivering training on Goal Setting. Two months passed since most of us in Sydney started working from home, we must have already adjusted to the new routine, I reflected; however, with the restrictions lifting the new wave of disruption is ahead of us. Is there anything to take from that time that might be worth noting.
My observations and lessons learned:
Do not mistake the movement with progress.
The power of writing it down. Having my survival kit mapped out helped me to act quicker.
There is never a more appropriate time to revisit your goals and plans than when the world is going upside down.
When faced with a new situation, go back and revisit what's important to you, what are the activities that help you to stay on track. Write it down.
The clarity quiets the noise in your brain as it reduces the numbers of daily decisions. When in doubts about what to do next, look at your notes, and the answer will reveal itself or just pick one activity and do it.
The things will slip away; prepare a strategy in advance for it, for example, if you know you like binge-watching telly when in a bad mood, you may think of restricting it to 2 episodes a day or earn the right to watch telly by doing sit-ups.
Do not sit in the waiting room of life too long. Shit happens. Do not kid yourself that we will just come back to what it was before. You probably did even like it in the first place.
The lift of restrictions and the arrival of daily buzz may have a negative effect on the nervous system initially. For most people the life was crazy busy before, so do not be surprised if you experienced resistance toward it.
Reflect. Whatever worked for you, replicate. Whatever did not work, eradicate.
Goal setting is never completed.
